Today

Today, I told my students that I would not be back next year.

They were mad when I told them why. To me, that says a lot about their priorities. They were mad because it's a useful program (one girl came into class today and told me all about the lovely dinners she made for her parents and siblings over the weekend--all from scratch, and all recipes that she learned in class!); they were mad because the decision was made for me and I didn't have a choice. They were mad because they are still eager to learn what I have to teach them, and that future knowledge is being taken away with no reasonable explanation.

They made me proud today.
